Piedras Blancas Light Station will be celebrating National Lighthouse Day with a Peek at the Past tour. Enactors will portray life at the light station in the early 1900s. This special living history tour is offered for the regular tour fee of $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-17, and no fee for ages 5 and under. Meet at the former Piedras Blancas Motel, located 1.5 miles north of the light station, by 9:45 am. Don’t miss this very special tour! For more information call, 805-924-7361. Reservations are not required. Tours last about 2 hours and include the historic lighthouse, support buildings, wildlife viewing, and spectacular scenery.
The U.S. Congress designated August 7, 1989 as National Lighthouse Day in recognition of the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Lighthouse Act by President George Washington on August 7, 1789. Under the Lighthouse Act of 1789, the U.S government took over responsibility for building and maintaining our nation’s lighthouses.
